More Kelly Clarkson album drama - Maybe Clive is the evil one....

May 30, 2007 -- NOTE to music industry legend Clive Davis: Stop trashing Kelly Clarkson - you are making yourself look bad.

"Clive is furious because Kelly has assumed total artistic control over her new album and refuses his suggestions," according to an insider at Sony BMG, the parent of Clarkson's label, RCA.

Davis, who runs Sony BMG, slammed Clarkson at a company retreat in April, saying she can't produce hits.

And music industry insiders were dumbfounded when Davis took the stage during the "American Idol" finale to plug Taylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee's new singles, but failed to mention Clarkson's third album, "My December," which debuts in June. Instead, Davis promoted the songwriters for one of Clarkson's hits, "Since U Been Gone."

Our insider said, "She wrote all of the second album herself - including the hits 'Because of You,' 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' and 'Walk Away.' Clive hated 'Because of You' so much, he would routinely mock it in meetings. It was one of her most successful singles."

Clarkson is not only one of Sony BMG's most profitable artists, having sold close to 15 million albums - she is also not a diva.

She hasn't demanded to renegotiate her deal with the label, our source said, even though "she only gets like $250,000 an album when she could get millions. She refuses to take more money because she wants artistic control. And she has always turned out to be right. If Clive had had his way, she wouldn't have sold nearly as many albums as she did.

"We are appalled he is picking apart one of our own acts - and one that we all love."

The source added, "Kelly wanted to make a deeply personal record. Here's an artist who didn't demand more money, who handed in her record on time in January, after making him millions, and now he rips her? The music business is collapsing, and this is why. They won't let people put out their real music. This is about his huge ego."

But a Davis pal said, "Clive gave her 'Hazel Eyes' and 'Walk Away' and he gave her the production company to help make 'Because of You' a hit. We pay millions for the albums. This is incorrect."

Clarkson's rep didn't return calls, and Davis' rep declined comment.

We hear the front-runner to replace O’Donnell is comic Kathy Griffin. And if Vieira stumbles further, look for Amy Robach to take her place. We’d be surprised if CBS boss Les Moonves wasn’t already looking for a loophole in Couric’s contract so he could move her to the “CBS Early Show.”

Simmons, Wife In Libel Rap

Details scant as couple targets celebrity magazine publisher

MAY 22--Music and fashion mogul Russell Simmons and his wife have filed a libel action against the publishers of In Touch magazine, but details of how the pair was allegedly maligned by the celebrity weekly are not contained in a court filing. In a New York State Supreme Court summons, Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons name Bauer Publishing and In Touch's two top editors as defendants in what is described as "an action for libel." However, the court file does not contain a corresponding complaint, which would normally detail allegations made by the plaintiff. The summons, a copy of which you'll find below, notes that the pair is seeking damages of at least $250,000. Brad Rose, a lawyer for the couple, refused to answer any questions about the May 17 summons or whether a lawsuit had been drafted. In Touch officials have been served with the summons, but have not received the complaint, so editors are in the dark about their purported transgressions. (2 pages)

Paula Abdul, in an effort to avoid stepping on her Chihuahua Tulip, ended up tripping and breaking her nose Saturday, PEOPLE confirms with her rep David Brokaw. "She went to the doctor and she did break her nose, but she's moving on and doing great" Brokaw says. "She looks terrific. If you didn't know she broke her nose, you'd never guess anything happened to her." Despite the injury, Abdul is expected to make the Idol performance show on Tuesday and the season finale on Wednesday, when Jordin Sparks faces off with Blake Lewis for the sixth Idol title. And what about Tulip? "Tulip is fine. For dogs, every day is Saturday," Brokaw says. "[Tulip] has no remorse," a chipper Abdul tells PEOPLE. "She just stared at me."
She may be in good spirits, but the broken nose, which was first reported by Extra, is causing the Idol judge pain. "She is in pain. No question about that," Brokaw says. "But she's standing 10 feet from me and you'd never know anything happened to her. There are no bandages. She's got some bruises on her arms and on one of her legs." The accident for Abdul harkens back to her 25-year struggle with chronic pain, which ended in 2005. In November 2004, she had been diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, a rare neuropathic disorder that causes intense, unexplained pain. She has been treated with Pamidronate for her RSD. For inflammatory arthritis, Abdul has taken Enbrel, which is unrelated to her RSD. This time around, though, it's unclear whether she's on any medication for her broken nose. "I have no knowledge of her taking anything," Brokaw says. "But she's very alert and clear-headed and having fun."

George Michael pleads guilty

George Michael has pleaded guilty to driving while unfit through drugs.
The 43-year-old appeared at Brent Magistrates’ Court today and admitted the offence.
A further charge of being in charge of a vehicle while unfit through drugs was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.
The singer, whose real name is George Panayiotou, was arrested in Cricklewood, North London, on October 1 last year after motorists reported a car obstructing the road at traffic lights.
He took the unusual step of speaking directly to the judge in open court today.
He said: "I did something very stupid and I am very ashamed since doing it.
“I’m not used to defending myself in a position where I am ashamed of something. I really have been very distressed by this whole thing.
“I am perfectly aware that I did something very wrong and got into my car when I was unfit to drive.
“I was not in my normal physical state and I’m perfectly prepared to accept the correct punishment for that and I would have accepted it a long time ago.
“It was fairly predictable considering how much work I had done that week.”
Sentencing was adjourned until May 30.

Paris Ordered to Serve 45 Days in Jail

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in L.A. County jail for violating her probation in a reckless driving case. Judge Michael T. Sauer handed down the harsh sentence, telling Paris she will not be allowed work release, furloughs, use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail. She must do the time!

An emotional Paris, with tears welling up in her eyes, told the judge moments before the decision "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Witnesses inside the courtroom say that Paris' parent, Rick and Kathy Hilton, were both visibly upset as the sentence was handed down. Kathy, we're told, was especially distraught.

Paris will serve her sentence at the Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF). She will begin her sentence on June 5.

PHILTON IN PRISON!

A hearing has been set before a Superior Court judge today that could lead to Paris Hilton a) serving 45 days in Los Angeles County Jail, b) ordered not to drink alcohol for 90 days, and c) having to wear a secure continuous remote alcohol monitoring device aka SCRAM that monitors said alcohol consumption. All because li'l ol' her knowingly and willfully violated her probation in a DUI conviction by driving under the influence and with a suspended license. Twice. Hilton's publicist, the clueless Elliot Mintz, has said that the heiress wasn't aware that her license had been suspended. Prosecutors say there is ''more than sufficient evidence that Hilton had knowledge of the suspension of her driving privilege when she was stopped February 27 while driving'' at night in her Bentley with the headlights off. On January 22, Hilton pleaded no contest through her attorneys to the misdemeanor reckless driving charge stemming from her arrest last September 7 in Hollywood. She was ordered to serve three years probation, fined $390 and ordered to complete an alcohol education program. Bette Midler takes up residency in Vegas

Bette Midler (tickets music) is packing her bags and moving to Sin City. Starting in February 2008, the Divine Miss M. will replace Celine Dion (tickets music) as the resident performer at Las Vegas' Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
"Get ready Vegas 'cause here I come!" Midler said in a statement. "Caesars Palace will never be the same and to all those critics who have accused me of being 'tacky,' 'too much' and 'over the top,' I say, you ain't seen nuthin' yet!"
Midler has signed on to perform approximately 100 concerts a year at the 4,100-seat Colosseum as part of a minimum two-year deal. Her show, which is scheduled to premiere Feb. 20, 2008, will be presented five nights a week. Tickets are already on sale for the first couple of weeks, with prices ranging from $95 to $250.
The 90-minute show will be "the biggest, most imaginative production Bette Midler has ever done," according to the singer/movie star's website. It will come with "plenty of girls, gags and guffaws, [Midler's] incomparable humor, the best song catalog in American music and her fabulous 'Kiss My Brass' section."
The $95 million Colosseum at Caesars Palace was built in 2003 for Dion's "A New Day" spectacular. The singer has virtually sold out 160 shows per year at the Vegas venue over what will be a nearly five-year run, according to the Associated Press news service.
With Midler's 100 shows and Elton John (tickets music) continuing to put in 50 performances a year at the Colosseum, there will be room for a third performer, according to John Meglen, president of promotions firm Concerts West.
"We will probably have one additional artist, which we'll announce later," Meglen told the AP. He reportedly would not comment on speculation that Cher would be the third performer.
Meglen said the Colosseum will go dark between Dion's grand finale Dec. 15 and Midler's first show.
Over her 40-year career, The Divine Miss M.--known for her bawdy humor, revealing costumes and distinctive voice--has earned four Grammys, four Golden Globes, three Emmys and a Tony. Her most recent album releases include 2005's "Bette Midler Sings the Peggy Lee Songbook" and 2003's "Bette Midler Sings the Rosemary Clooney Songbook."

Your favorite LAW BREAKING rapper Busta Rhymes was arrested early this morning in NYC on a DUI charge. The rapper was driving his 2006 GMC Yukon with ultra dark tints, which prompted the cops to pull the SUV over. Upon inspecting Busta’s tinted windows, the officers smelled a strong alcohol odor emanating from the rappers mouth and administered a field sobriety test.

Needless to say… Busta failed the test- and currently is in Central Booking waiting to see a Judge.

Her poorly-received new single, Never Again, debuted at #8 in the singles charts this week, according to the latest Billboard 100.

Clarkson's debut comes in two spots lower than fellow American Idol alum Carrie Underwood, whose beautiful cover of The Pretenders classic I'll Stand By You debuted at #6 and is continuing to outperform Kelly on all the Internet download charts.

Britney Spears' fifteen-minute long "running through the motions" show at the House of Blues in Anaheim on Wednesday night was received even worse than her first comeback non-concert the night before in San Diego.
"Somebody threw a Marshmallow-sized object at Britney during her last song," one of our many operatives in attendance tells PerezHilton.com. "It nearly hit her. Her bodyguard got pissed and whisked her off the stage."
Spears was just as loquacious as the night before, simply telling the crowd on Wednesday, "Thank you so much."
Once again, we say....That's all?
Many in attendance felt cheated by the former pop star. Not only did she fully lipsynch her way through every song, but concertgoers tell us that Britney didn't even perform full versions of her hits. They were weird, shortened mixes.
Additionally, an astute Britney expert points out. "Britney stole Brian Friedman's choreography pretty much step by step! Teaching your backup dancers your old moves is not choreographing a new show!"
As PerezHilton.com was the first to exclusively report, Spears and her longtime choreographer and friend Brian Friedman had a recent falling out and Britney "taught" her dancers all the moves for her recent performances.
And, though she's only a few months out of rehab, Britney made fun of her drug problem during her little show.
